BAM has topped out at the Rowe in Whitechapel.
Plans to reuse and reconfigure the existing six storey structure were replaced, with a new scheme that saw the company demolish the existing building, while retaining the 1960’s façade.
BAM is now working on the new 12 storey building, which sits behind the façade and comprises five concrete floors on the bottom and seven floors above that utilise a lighter steel framework.
“This has been a challenging project,” said Rob Biddle, Construction Manager with BAM. “But it’s been great to be able to share our progress with the client, and everyone who’s working on this ambitious build. We are really pleased to get such positive feedback on our work to date.”
With a floor area of 22,579m2, the ambitious sustainable commercial scheme is targeting Well Gold in addition to a BREEAM “Excellent” rating. The Rowe will run on 100 percent renewable electricity, providing a 45 percent carbon emission reduction compared to a standard office building.
At the ceremony Frasers Property Group’s CEO Illaria Del Beato, and Development Director Guy Morgan were presented with two ceramic plaques to mark the occasion. The plaques are made of the same materials as the soffit panels on the lower 6 transition floor, which will form part of a stunning art installation by artist Yinika Ilori, who studied on the site when it was home to London Metropolitan University.
