Leading Lights Awards 2022 celebrate the brightest and best in considerate construction

At its annual award ceremony, held at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, the Considerate Constructors Scheme has recognised 43 outstanding individuals, exceptional sites and organisations of all sizes with their Leading Lights Awards.

The Leading Lights Awards are the Scheme’s new National awards launched in 2022 to recognise projects and initiatives that have gone the extra mile to deliver positive results in the spaces where people live, work and play in any of the three areas of the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice: Respecting the Community, Caring for the Environment and Valuing the Workforce.

Amanda Long, Chief Executive of the Considerate Constructor Scheme, said: “I’m delighted to congratulate the winners of our new Leading Lights Awards. The Leading Lights Awards are a reflection of our new strategy, which is centred around building a culture of continuous improvement in the construction industry, raising standards and building trust.

“The Leading Lights Awards are a worthy successor to the Scheme’s National Site and Company Awards and the natural evolution of how we recognise Considerate Practice, by celebrating those that go above and beyond the Code.”

The Awards were presented to sites, ultra-sites and organisations in size bands in the following categories, and there was also one individual recognised as a Champion in each of the three main categories – community, environment and workforce.

Among the winners, nine particularly outstanding projects were also acknowledged with an Overall Winner Trophy on the night.

Amit Oberoi, Non-Executive Chairman of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, added: “It’s so important to recognise and celebrate the industry’s efforts to go the extra mile, and the Leading Lights Awards have done a fantastic job in shining a light on those leading the way with their innovations and initiatives. Congratulations to all the winners.”

The event itself reflected and embodied the values of the Code, with emphasis on creating value in the local community and on sustainability. Particular efforts have gone into using local suppliers where possible, to reduce carbon footprint and promote local talent. The Scheme has also strived to use recyclable, reused or sustainable items for the venue dressing while the trophies were produced from recycled glass and sustainable wood.

The event has supported the Manchester Central Foodbank and encouraged donations to the Trussell Trust, which supports more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK.
