Solihull’s Metropolitan Borough Council offices have been transformed with a major refurbishment of its town centre mid-century office block.The upgrade to the Council’s Church Hill House andOrchard House buildings required alterations and extension works to provide new open-plan office space, a newly formed atrium and new facades.
Replacement of the existing old and rotten windows for new glazed units with high thermal and acoustic performance whilst maintaining the essential character of the buildings was essential.Kestrel Aluminium’s 60mm window system was chosen for the project because of its proven track record in this type of development and easily met the performance specification laid down.
The windows are full height in all applications to make the most of the natural light coming into the open-plan spaces and to provide the best possible views across the town. They are double glazed throughout, achieving a U-Value of 1.7W/m2K and have high-level PAS24 security accreditation. All windows were fabricated and installed over seven floors by Tamworth based WD Group, who ensured that the exterior aesthetic of the original buildings remained as unchanged as possible which included fabricating bespoke windows in the same 60mm profile to replace the steel ones being removed.
All units were powder coated from a palette of complementary RAL colours to provide a long-lasting, and colour-durable quality finish. Kestrel Aluminium Systems worked closely withWD Group’s dedicated design team and project manager to ensure design concepts and cost-restraints were maintained throughout the successful delivery of the project.
