The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has revealed the 2024 Passive Fire Protection (PFP) Awards winners at the Association’s spectacular Passive Fire Protection Awards Dinner at the Athena Hotel in Leicester.

Selected by an independent judging panel, comprising fire industry leaders, this year’s winners include:

Best Large Scale Installation/Project of the Year:

LDD Construction: Installation of passive fire protection systems at Powergate, a 96MW Hyperscale Data Centre campus in North Acton, London. The judges commended LDD for its detailed account of the obstacles faced, offering insight into their problem-solving approach and the complexities of the project.

Best Small Scale Installation/Project of the Year:

Novus Property Solutions: Working in partnership with Platform Housing Group since 2018 to deliver approximately £3.5m of passive fire protection works each year. This project demonstrated a strong level of technical detail in addressing the challenges encountered by effectively engaging its staff, resources, and expertise to navigate and overcome these factors.

Passive Fire Innovation of the Year (Project):

Knauf Insulation: Rocksilk RainScreen FFCB, an innovative cavity barrier made from rock mineral wool, that is designed to be face-fixed to Rocksilk RainScreen Slab as the masonry façade is constructed. The judges felt this product offers ease of fitting and installation, it is non-combustible and meets the Euroclass A1 classification for fire safety. It presents a cost-effective alternative and provides designers and architects with confidence in their design choices.

Passive Fire Innovation of the Year (Digital):

CLM Fireproofing: This intelligent BIM Plugin uses 3D-models to capture, explore, and maintain consistent/coordinated planning, design, construction and the provision of operational and technical data to develop passive fire strategies for buildings and assets. The judges were impressed by the support and benefits it delivers to various professionals in the passive fire protection industry, including architects, builders, contractors, fire engineers, fire consultants, and responsible persons.

Training & Development of the Year: The Checkmate Training Academy was recognised for its strong commitment to the training and ongoing competency of all their staff and contractors. Checkmate has dedicated in-house training facilities and has developed a clear, well-documented strategy aimed at upskilling everyone who interacts with the business, while also maintaining accurate records of all training provided and received.

Best Customer Service of the Year: Novus Property Solutions has received recognition for its excellence, including notable commendations for Charlotte Derwent, their community liaison officer, who exemplified exceptional empathy and care for a tenant facing trauma. Her efforts ensured both the tenant's safety and the delivery of an efficient service, underscoring Novus's commitment to compassionate customer care.

Marketing Campaign of the Year: FSi/Promat for the "Every Clad Needs a Silverliner" marketing campaign which achieved impressive engagement and a strong return on investment. With a modest budget, the campaign generated a £500,000 sales pipeline, delivering a 23:1 return on investment. It reached over half a million people, including over 100,000 through LinkedIn, with a high engagement rate of 2.77% and 2,901 total interactions.

Highest Engagement Award: Warrington Fire Testing and Certification for its outstanding involvement with ASFP. Warrington has completed several ASFP training courses and has multiple staff members actively contributing to ASFP technical groups, exemplifying their commitment to engagement and excellence in the field.

Several individuals were also recognised for their excellence:

Individual Rising Star of the Year: Chelsea Campbell of the Encon Group. Chelsea lends her expertise to support colleagues and customers through training and project assistance, while actively promoting best practices within her network. Her dedication to building competence in fire protection is evident through her regular participation in training and industry events.
