Boyd Group inspects 75 fire doors using Fireco’s DorTrak software

The Boyd Group is a family-run fire safety and compliance company providing training, inspection, and support services across the UK. In this case, they were working with a major international tyre manufacturer operating a large production facility in northwest England. The task: inspect 75 fire doors and deliver fully documented reports using reliable, easy-to-interpret software.

“Before we visited to inspect using DorTrak software, the client’s Health and Safety Manager experienced a lack of proper documented reporting and inspection of a fire door’s current condition,” said Murray Parker, Partnerships Development Executive at Boyd Group. “They’d had inspections done in the past and been left disappointed. There was no complete list of all fire doors on site and no real organised collection of compliance documents relating to a fire door’s installation or condition.”

To meet the client’s needs and raise the standard of reporting, the Boyd Group used Fireco’s DorTrak software—a customisable digital platform for comprehensive fire door inspections.

“Using the app is far more straightforward and time efficient than operating with paper and pen,” said Murray. “It is a very functional, usable software that makes fire door inspections quicker, easier and clearer in both data capture and data presentation after.”

The benefits of DorTrak quickly became clear to both Boyd and their client. “The summary report format is very good; the colour coding where passes, minor fails and major fails appear is easily digestible and aesthetically pleasing. The gap measurement option is a positive feature and it is well laid out and easy to digest.”

A standout benefit was the platform’s geo-locating capability. “Both ourselves and the client are very impressed with the geo-locating feature. It allows, for example, the end client to hand over an individual door’s report, plus the location on a site map to the contractor they are using to repair some doors—and know that the contractor knows where to find the door on what is a very large site, all without having to be babysat.”

Initial feedback from the client was overwhelmingly positive. “They are delighted with our technician and the software. The report is far more in-depth than any previous fire door inspection they have had done,” Murray said. “They have had an auditing agency on site since who have commended the detail and coverage of content within the inspection reports.”

Summing up the experience, Murray added: “Both the client and their auditing agency are highly impressed with the service, volume and level of in-depth data gathered. We’re delighted with their feedback and have now confirmed our next job with them at their premises in Derbyshire of a similar size.”

By using Fireco’s DorTrak software, Boyd Group was able to transform fire door inspections from a frustrating, incomplete process into a precise, professional service—benefiting both client compliance and operational efficiency.
