Already well recognised in the industry as a manufacturer of top quality valves and other hydronic components, ESBE is in the process of establishing an important new collaboration regarding installer training, by teaming up with a young Croatian engineer who has a growing number of professionals and other followers who have embraced his unique style of delivering insights on heat pump installations.

Mario Dodic describes himself as an ‘HVAC Educator & Trainer’ and has a career path which makes him well qualified for the task, at a time when large parts of Europe – very much including the UK – are in urgent need of many more competent installers.Having completed a mechanical engineering degree in his native Croatia six years ago, Mario spent two years working for Ariston before joining Panasonic, in both cases having responsibility for technical support – covering design, installation and commissioning – across the Eastern Slavic countries. Then in 2023 he set up his own English language channel on YouTube to provide training specific to the heat pump sector, while now his HVAC Education Hub is set to gain a new following through working with ESBE.
Mario explains: “In Croatia, I have collaborated with some of the colleges and several companies in the sector to train their employees. In the UK, I have worked with British Gas and some of the big manufacturers like Worcester Bosch. Many people are watching the tutorials and posts on YouTube and LinkedIn, as well as signing up for the courses.I am filling a gap in the market as there is a lack of independent education on heat pumps and I am trying to teach people to understand the full system. This means getting to grips with everything from correctly calculating the building heat loss figures, through to commissioning. The next step is cooperating with ESBE to create bespoke training, which will explain the importance of valves as a critical part of the system. ESBE’s valves are the best performing available and we will be looking to show how their operation suits heat pumps. The key point is heat pumps have very high flow rates and if you use the wrong valves they cannot cope with the high resistance and the system efficiency is severely compromised.”
“Having interviewed ESBE’s Darren Myers at the last Installer Show for a podcast, I am also planning to pay a visit to the company’s advanced manufacturing facilities in Sweden, while we work to generate more content. My new educational online platform is launched with first course Heat Pump Introduction & Technology. Ultimately, we are seeking to scale the platform, with four new courses (Design, Hydronic Masterclass, Installation & Commissioning, Maintenance & Troubleshooting) to the full curriculum by the end of the year and reaching a wider audience.”
UK Managing Director for ESBE, Darren Myers, comments: “Mario is a very knowledgeable engineer, who is very good at communicating information to installers through his podcasts and courses. We get on really well with him and he’s good for the industry. He has a vast amount of experience and we are optimistic that our collaboration is going to help ensure that far more heat pumps are correctly installed. It is all about getting the right education out to the installer network: our own technical team will be working on calculations and defining the best way to carry out installations. As well as being involved in formulating the training, we will be helping Mario disseminate it to the industry via campaigns, links on our website and other strategies.”
Mario concludes with the view: “To achieve the best possible solutions for the heat pump market, you need to have the right equipment along with appropriate training or education, backed up by local support to optimise the final installation.”
