Stringent new fire regulations mean an easy-to-use, sustainable product that’s better for specifiers and safer for installers is standing tall.
Habito plasterboard is British Gypsum’s new fully compliant solution for use in external walls in buildings more than 11 and 18 metres in height as defined in Approved Document B.
Specifiers are turning to the Leicestershire-based firm’s product as a strong performing and viable alternative to plywood.

The impressive load capability data for a wider range of fixings and a new 12 mm service support plate is establishing Habito as a popular pattress and full-layer alternative to plywood.
James Felix, Product Manager at British Gypsum, says: “By proving its fixing strength and making the data available for architects, specifiers and the industry, we’re taking another step towards making the world a better home.”
The gypsum based board, easy to install without special tools, has been rigorously tested with wall plugs, cavity anchors and 5mm woodscrews.
Specifiers and architects say its time and money saving impact through ‘score and snap’ technology makes the installation process more efficient – ,a lot less dusty and better for the health and safety of installers.
The A2-s1,d0 rated Habito board can be a more sustainable solution versus plywood – by avoiding the need for additional raw material – and speeds up what was once a dusty, time consuming job for installers.
British Gypsum, the UK market leader in plasterboard, plaster and drylining systems, says Habito’s versatility as a standard plasterboard or an alternative pattress solution to plywood is driving interest in its product.
Installers say using Habito on site instead of adding an additional layer is saving time and money, and making specifying easier. And there’s no more waiting for plywood to be cut elsewhere and brought to them.
James says: “As the world evolves and regulations make construction safer, we’re delighted to be providing the industry with an innovative, sustainable and practical option for the tall buildings of the future.”
“We’re pleased that the message is resonating that where plywood can’t, Habito can.”
