The Grace development, a new housing scheme by Strata, became one of its latest projects to take advantage of EGGER’s Protect structural flooring boards.
With sites across the North of England and the Midlands, Strata is inspired by the Scandinavian approach, blending functionality and simplicity to create spaces that enhance wellbeing and give a sense of belonging.
One of its newest is the Grace development situated in Arnold, just north of Nottingham city centre, a thriving and well-connected town that offers both modern convenience and countryside charm.
The development contains 45 four- and five-bedroom homes, ranging from its Bologna and Naples designs to Siena and Valencia.
With a focus on building modern homes and being mindful of the environment, utilising high-quality building materials was key for Strata.
Darren Palmer, Project Manager at Strata, explained: “As a housebuilder, there are a variety of things we must consider when specifying building materials. First and foremost is sustainability, with the environment central to what we do at Strata. High quality products are another ‘must have’, as well as being easy for our site teams to install. With all of this in mind, Strata had looked for organisations and suppliers that align with our own values and EGGER UK fit the bill perfectly.
“The EGGER Protect boards worked well for Grace, with the boards offering up to 100 days weather protection. This was essential considering that the main construction works were taking place during the wetter winter months, with added protection against the elements proving invaluable.
“What’s more, EGGER’s structural flooring boards can be easily cleaned, ready for the plot to be handed over to other trades for the next phase of internal works. They also come with an easy-to-follow fitting guide and tongue and groove joint, meaning our onsite team can easily fit them together using EGGER’s Joint & Joist Adhesive.”
Strata has been using EGGER Protect structural flooring on its developments for three years now, with Mike Tozer, National Construction Account Manager from EGGER UK, saying: “We have a really great working relationship with the team at Strata and a sole supply agreement in place for EGGER Protect. This product is extremely beneficial for housebuilders, with a thermally bonded protective layer on either side of the board offering protection against bumps and scrapes from site traffic or dropped tools. This layer also provides slip resistance and reduces waste, being permanently adhered.”
With Strata taking a keen focus on the environmental impact of housebuilding, EGGER Protect again proved valuable, with Darren saying: “Sustainability is top of the agenda for us at Strata, it’s always been a core part of our ethos. As such, carefully considering every building material going into our homes is crucial. EGGER’s structural flooring boards again meet this expectation, manufactured using renewable materials and processes.”
A large percentage of EGGER’s structural flooring boards are made up of recycled wood content supplied by Timberpak, a subsidiary of EGGER UK, in addition to sawmill by-products (such as hackchips and sawdust) and virgin industrial waste wood, facilitating material circularity. All virgin timber used in the production process is sourced from local, certified forests.
In addition to this, EGGER UK has recently launched product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its chipboard-based structural flooring products, underlining its commitment to transparency and sustainable construction.
Work on the Grace development is currently ongoing and is scheduled to finish in Spring 2027, with a number of homes already reserved.
