The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) has expanded its online training programme with the introduction of two new half-day courses designed to provide delegates with a practical understanding of pump applications within the chemical processing and water and wastewater sectors.
Pumps in Chemical Processing, which takes place on 14th October, and Pumps in Water and Wastewater Processing, scheduled for 9th December, have been developed for individuals with a general engineering or commercial background who are looking to broaden their understanding of how pumping equipment is applied within these specialist industries.
The new courses build on the BPMA’s existing programme by taking a sector-specific approach, examining the processes, applications, pump technologies, and materials considerations encountered in each industry.
The Pumps in Chemical Processing course provides an introduction to the practical use of pumping equipment across the chemical industry, looking at how different processes influence pump selection, configuration, and materials of construction.
Using typical process flow charts and pump applications, the course provides insight into the role of pumps within chemical processing, while also considering issues including the handling of liquids and solids, corrosion and erosion, and their impact on pump design and material selection.
Examples of applications covered include sulphuric acid and phosphoric acid processing, together with metal refining and finishing. Delegates will gain an understanding of the types of fluids encountered within the industry, the range of pump designs that may be employed and the materials required for different applications.
Pumps in Water and Wastewater Processing
The Pumps in Water and Wastewater Processing course takes a similar practical approach, focusing on the application of pumping equipment throughout the water and wastewater industry.
The course provides an overview of the water cycle and examines pump technologies and applications associated with water supply, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and desalination. It also considers pump performance characteristics, the handling of liquids and solids, and the effects of corrosion and erosion on pump design and materials.
By the end of the course, delegates should have a better understanding of the water and wastewater industry, the fluids encountered, the pump designs that may be employed and the materials of construction required for different applications.
Both courses are designed to provide a sound foundation from which delegates can further explore the specific processes and applications relevant to their own areas of interest.
The new courses are currently not CPD registered.
