Willmott Dixon has appointed Bison Manufacturing to supply its products for the construction of the new and innovative University of Birmingham School.
Starting in June, the UK’s leading precast concrete manufacturer provided 8,700m² of its 200mm deep Hollowcore flooring units and two flights of staircases measuring a total of 30m³.
Based in the Selly Oak district in the south-west of the city, the secondary school and sixth form centre will provide education for up to 1,150 pupils aged between 11 and 18. One of the UK’s first university training schools, the facility will also focus on developing new teachers – in conjunction with the University’s School of Education.
Speaking of the appointment, Mike Nelson, Sales and Commercial Manager at Bison Manufacturing, said: “We have a long history of working within the education sector and we’re delighted that Willmott Dixon has appointed us to provide our precast units for this unique project.
“Our Hollowcore flooring and staircases provide a durable, easy to install solution and reduce the requirement for wet trades on site, helping to meet project timescales.”
The school is expected to open to pupils in September 2015.
