Platform lifts are well-established in the market but also have size limitations. Axess 4 All faced this challenge at Cardiff University’s chemistry building, which required a lift larger than the standard 1,100mm wide x 1,500mm platform to transport chemistry trolleys safely. A conventional passenger lift was also unsuitable, so the large capacity Axess 4 All A8000 was specified, providing the benefits of a platform lift with a small recess and no over travel but with a platform length of 2,480mm long. The A8000 was installed in the ornate entrance stairwell with glazed shaft panels to allow as much light as possible though. From a disabled access perspective, the unit was fitted with power operated doors with remote push button.
