Confident specifying for leisure sector tiling

The BAL CPD Seminar ‘Specifying tiling for leisure facilities’ enables architects to approach any leisure sector project with complete confidence.

It is fully accredited for CPD by RIBA, which mandates at least 35 hours of annual CPD.

BAL’s 45-minute seminar uses a variety of real projects to illustrate challenges and solutions common to leisure sector projects. It allows architects to build real insight into the potential issues in leisure tiling, in applications from communal showers to changing rooms, from entrance halls to swimming pools. It goes beyond immediate functionality challenges, such as adhesion under vibration, to health and safety matters, such as slipping.

The seminar shows the importance of architect attention to issues beyond product specification. It explains the importance of such factors as drying times for backgrounds, adhesives and grouts, the options for waterproofing systems and ensuring slip resistance. There is also full guidance on best practice, from specification to sign-off.

Detailed consideration is given to sustainability and environmental factors, alongside thorough explanation of relevant British and European standards: BS 5385, BS EN 12002, BS EN 12004, BS EN 13888, BS EN 14411 and BS EN 12057 are all covered in the seminar. There is also comprehensive explanation, at appropriate stages during the seminar, of recommended product types, including adhesives, grouts, sealant and associated products.

‘Specifying tiling for leisure facilities’ is one of a family of RIBA-approved CPD Seminars created by BAL.

Others address heavy traffic areas, problem solving and the use of natural stone. Although each has been created specifically for architects, they are all highly relevant for designers, contractors and other specifiers.

BAL, UK leader in professional tile adhesives and grouts for over 40 years, is renowned for outstanding product quality and technical support. Its tiler training is acknowledged as setting industry standards and it continues to invest in maintaining unparalleled support services. Every product bearing the BAL name is manufactured in Britain and is covered by a full 25-year guarantee.
