Façades and shopfront specialist, DML, is capitalising on success after being appointed to a project worth around £1m at the St James’s Gateway development in the heart of London’s West End.
DML, which was selected by global property management company and main contractor Lend Lease, is providing bronze shopfronts for the ground-floor, along with glazed roof lights and cladding to the stairwell of the mixed-use development located between Piccadilly and Jermyn Street.
The scheme will consolidate seven existing buildings into one new building and one refurbished listed property, and comprises 57,000 sq ft of commercial office space, 21,000 sq ft of retail and 19,000 sq ft of residential units along with public realm enhancements to Eagle Place, Jermyn Street, Piccadilly and Regent Street.
Developed by Stanhope plc for Maple Investments, a joint venture between The Crown Estate and the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan; and designed by Eric Parry Architects, it is due to be completed by mid 2013 and will achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The new building will blend contemporary modern façades with existing ones to provide eight retail units to Piccadilly and Jermyn Street, six floors of office accommodation, and five apartments overlooking Jermyn Street; while the refurbished listed building will retain much of the existing fabric with a new core being added to the rear of the building along with re-planned floor plates to accommodate 11 apartments. World renowned artist Richard Deacon has been commissioned to create a dramatic sculpture as part of the Piccadilly façade.
Atkins has been commissioned to design a two-way traffic scheme, which will see the existing one way systems remodelled with improvements to the public space around Pall Mall, St James’s Street and Piccadilly.
Further developments at Dorland House on Heddon Street and Finland House on Haymarket, and on Piccadilly, are planned in future phases.
Chris Murray, sales director, DML, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in this high-profile development, which further strengthens our major projects portfolio.
“DML has significant experience in this type of project and has established an outstanding reputation for delivering challenging, large-scale and often prestigious landmark schemes, which is reflected in the growing number of projects to which we’ve been appointed.”
The company offers a total capability façade solution from design and build to bespoke entrances, whether clients are seeking a specialised ‘one-off’ requirement or a comprehensive, conception-to-completion, full turn-key provision.
