Skanska scales annual league summit for first time

A series of high profile contract wins has helped Skanska reach the top of Glenigan’s annual contractor league table for the first time.

The contractor brought Kier and Balfour Beatty’s 20-month reign over the annual leagues to an end after securing five deals worth £411 million in February.

Recent successes include a £330 million contract for the construction management of AstraZeneca’s new corporate headquarters in Cambridge (Glenigan Project ID: 13094658). Skanska’s total annual haul also includes a £600 million contract for phase two of the Battersea Power Station regeneration scheme (Glenigan Project ID: 13109360).

Laing O’Rourke took pole position in the monthly league table after bagging the £440 million Westgate Oxford project for joint clients Land Securities and Crown Estates (Glenigan Project ID: 00296266) and an £80 million office scheme for Mosley Street Ventures in Manchester (Glenigan Project ID: 13159975).

Morgan Sindall climbed to third place, buoyed by a £80 million contract to build 600 homes for Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council (Glenigan Project ID: 14394210) and a £30 million student services centre for Cambridge University (Glenigan Project ID: 14262446).

AstraZeneca’s Cambridge Biomedical Campus project has seen it shoot straight to the top of the latest monthly client table. The development, which will include a global research and development centre, is expected to complete in 2016/17.

Elsewhere in this month’s contractor leagues, Aecom is a new entry at the top of the quantity surveyor table after winning seven deals worth £544.5 million. Hoare Lee climbed six places to take the number one spot in the consulting engineers tables, while Dixon Jones leads the list of top 20 architects.

Glenigan league tables are produced from comprehensive UK construction activity data and provide a snapshot of contractor performance over a 12-month period. Projects are tracked to completion on site by Glenigan researchers, who make over one million phone calls per year to provide timely, robust data.
