London 2012 legacy continues at Lee Valley

London 2012’s legacy continues at Lee Valley’s white water rafting centre in Hertfordshire following the completion of a brand new terrace bar by leading independent design, construction and infrastructure consultancy Pick Everard.

Lee Valley, which is also home to the Olympic tennis and hockey centre and velodrome, took centre stage at the London Games and has now become a mainstay within the community.

Pick Everard was appointed to both projects through the Scape national framework for project management and quantity surveying framework, for which it is the sole provider in the UK.

Daniel Noon, associate at Pick Everard, has been working on the project. He said: “Lee Valley played a huge part in the London Olympics, but it was really important for the facilities to benefit local people after the Games were finished.

“The legacy funding made available after the Olympics has benefitted a huge number of people – and has already seen a £4.5 million investment in the facilities there, helping to make Lee Valley central to the community locally.

“Having become extremely popular, the white water rafting centre started serving food around a year ago but the existing outdoor facilities couldn’t cope with the demand so plans were put into place to build a brand new terrace bar to help meet it.”

Alastair Hamilton is the partner at the firm responsible for the project. He added: “Pick Everard has provided a number of services throughout the development, including project management and quantity surveying, and we have been delighted with the results.

“Being involved with the London 2012 legacy is really exciting for the firm and we are very proud to be able to further enhance what are already excellent facilities for people living in the local area to enjoy for many years to come.”

The velodrome has also received a boost after a new café opened on site – another project with which Pick Everard has been involved.

“Work is now complete on the provision of a café within the VeloPark, which is sited within the main concourse and will be open to users, spectators and the general public,” added Daniel.

“Pick Everard was involved in the enabling works to the retail shop and retail storage, and has worked on the installation of wayfinding, legacy graphics and display signage among other things too.”
