The first phase of the Oakham Heights development in Rutland, East Midlands, comprising 143 homes, has started on site. Oakham Heights is a sustainable urban extension project that will see up to 1,100 dwellings constructed over 15 years, in ten phases.
LDA Design is the designer for the scheme, which is being developed by Larkfleet Homes. With responsibility for masterplanning, architecture, landscape and ecology, as well as contributing on public and committee presentations, LDA Design was part of the project team that achieved planning approval for the first phase.
LDA Design's plan for Leighfield Park - phase one of the scheme - has an informal, 'village' character incorporating examples of the practice's own housing design as well as detailed external work designs to a high quality finish.
Oakham Heights includes a continuing care retirement community, a care home, around 30 acres of offices as well as parks and open spaces, children's play areas and a new local centre. Planning approval has also been granted for improved transport links with new cycle, footpath and bus routes.
Professor Robert Tregay, Chairman at LDA Design said: “This scheme will provide good quality homes for Oakham. LDA Design has been involved in this project for over a decade and worked closely throughout the planning process with the whole project team and Larkfleet Homes. This really is a great achievement for all involved.”
The new showhome complex at Leighfield Park is now open.
