When David Chopping was thanking Gerald McEnhill for tiling his kitchen, he did not realise that the work would be paid for by somebody else. As the latest lucky winner of www.tilerworld.com’s monthly free draw, he has received back the cost of the work tiling. He was entered automatically into the draw by posting a rating of Gerald’s work onto the TilerWorld site.
David was refurbishing his home for over a decade, in Landford, Salisbury. This included the kitchen floor and walls, which meant removing the existing flooring. He found that his floor and walls seemed to be competing to provide the least even surface. “It turned out that the floor needed far more preparation work than anyone could have anticipated,” he said, “But Gerry just asked when the builders needed to come in and fit the new units. Then, he worked through a weekend to ensure that they were not delayed.”
After all the levelling, Gerald fixed a variety of porcelain tiles. David had chosen 100 mm x 100 mm for the walls, and 500 mm x 330 mm for the floor. “Somebody else might just have laid the tiles,” said David. “Not Gerry. He advised trying a particular pattern which creates an optical illusion. Now, visitors keep asking what has been done to make the room so much bigger.”
When the kitchen was completed, he endorsed the work with a positive rating on TilerWorld — and thereby earned his entry to the free draw.
“TilerWorld is great for tilers and customers,” said Gerald McEnhill. “Customers who do not win the monthly draw still know that they are dealing with a first-rate tiler. I am delighted, though, that David is the latest winner.”
Every customer using a rated tiler listed on TilerWorld can submit a rating of their tiler’s work, with the incentive of a free prize draw. Each month, one lucky customer wins the value of their tiling, up to a maximum of £500.
TilerWorld enables a consumer to find up to 20 professional tilers in their area, seeing how each has been rated by customers. They can then request quotes from up to five of these tilers. Thousands of fixers nationwide are registered with the site, with more joining every week. As well as being able to show customer ratings, each is also able to upload photographs of their work. The site is free to use for both tilers and their customers.
