As the landmark Green Deal environmental policy is launched, Policy Exchange and Rockwool host Party Conference fringe.
Coinciding with the launch of the Green Deal, the Government’s landmark environmental home improvement programme, think tank Policy Exchange and Rockwool, the world’s largest producer of stonewool insulation, are hosting a series of panel debates examining the impact of the legislation.
Billed as the biggest home improvement programme since the Second World War, the Green Deal will give homeowners access to low-cost loans to install green technologies and materials such as high-grade loft and cavity wall insulation and external wall insulation, of the type manufactured by Rockwool.
Policy Exchange is hosting a series of fringe debates, sponsored by Rockwool, with leading politicians and policy makers, debating the impact of the Green Deal on carbon reduction and fuel poverty.
Speaking at the events are some of the UK’s most informed commentators on the Green Deal and industry experts. They include: Rt Hon Andrew Stunell MP; Matthew Spencer, Director, Green Alliance; Luciana Berger MP, Shadow Minister for Energy & Climate Change; Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy & Climate Change; Dr Richard Carmichael, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group, Imperial College Business School and Dr Brenda Boardman, Emeritus Fellow-Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford
Guy Newey, Head of Environment & Energy, Policy Exchange, who will be sharing the Think Tank’s views at the events said: “'The Green Deal is an ambitious and far reaching energy efficiency programme and we anticipate an interesting and lively series of debates to explore, what has been for many, a contentious plan.”
Thomas Heldgaard, Managing Director of Rockwool UK, also speaking at the events said: “The Green Deal has the potential to transform the UK’s building stock, reduce carbon emissions, cut energy efficiency, and create skilled green jobs. Rockwool has been a long term supporter of the Green Deal and is eagerly awaiting the launch.”
