MERCHANTS SEE STRONG DEMAND FOR NEW MIXED BRINDLE TILE

A new clay tile has proven so popular with merchants’ customers that sales have exceeded its half yearly targets in the first few months alone. Marley's new Acme Mixed Brindle single camber clay plain tile was developed to meet the growing demand for a weathered appearance clay tile in both the new and refurbishment markets.

The new tile has a red brown base and weathered appearance to create a true brindle colour and can be used at pitches as low as 30°. Designed as a stocking product, the Acme Mixed Brindle is already available in many national and regional merchants across the country.

One of the first merchants to take the new colour tile was specialist roofing merchant Bowller, which has five branches and two contracting companies in the south of England. Steve Bowller, managing director of the Bowller Group, comments: “We’ve been waiting for a product like this to come on the market for some time and it’s received a very positive response from our customers, who find it easier to work with than other similar brindle clay tiles.

“The colour has surpassed our expectations as the blend within each tile is superb and creates a really warm aesthetic. There are a lot of weathered appearance clay tiles on the market but this one really does stand out from the crowd. In fact, we have to keep replacing our sample display tiles because they are selling so quickly. ”

Another first stockist was Chandlers Building Supplies, which operates branches throughout the south east. Jim Hughes, roofing manager at Chandlers Building Supplies, explains: “We chose to stock the new Acme Mixed Brindle tile because it was an ideal colour and blend for this part of the country. With an increasing amount of extensions, our customers are looking for a weathered rather than new look clay tile, which can also be used at lower pitches. So the tile ticks all the boxes and we’ve had a good response from customers, particularly because it is an affordable clay roof tile.”

Paul Johnson, regional sales director at Marley, comments: “The new colour has been so successful because it was developed to meet the growing design trend for weathered appearance clay roofs in both the new and refurbishment markets. Each individual tile is a different colour and can be blended to make a beautiful, authentic but cost effective clay roof. It is an ideal product for merchants because they can take a full or half load and have it as a stocked product.

“The successful launch of the Acme Mixed Brindle proves that listening to customers and responding to their needs can result in significant market demand, even in difficult trading conditions.”

The Acme Mixed Brindle boasts impressive environmental credentials, achieving the maximum points towards the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing standard and an A+ rating in the BRE Green Guide to Specification. Marley is also the first roofing manufacture to offer carbon footprint data for all its range of roof tiles at product level, certified by the Carbon Trust.

The Mixed Brindle is the latest addition to Marley’s popular clay plain tile range, which now extends the range to over 20 different colours and textures for complete design flexibility. A range of fittings, accessories and ventilation products is also available to complement the Acme Mixed Brindle colour.
