Sika Liquid Plastics, pioneer of cold applied liquid roofing systems, has worked with architects and building surveyors W R Dunn and Co. Ltd, and roofing contractor Surface Protection Limited to provide a new waterproofing system for the Grade I Listed Bramham Park in Leeds.
Bramham Park is home to the Lane Fox family and is located in a 400 acre landscaped park – most renowned for hosting the annual Leeds music festival and the Bramham International Horse Trials.
The vast country house was first constructed in the early 1700’s but was almost entirely destroyed by a fire in 1828. The building then stood derelict for 79 years until 1906 when work began by the family to restore it.
“The main asphalt roof had failed and was allowing rainwater to penetrate the building,” comments Ian Smith of W R Dunn and Co. “We needed to carry out emergency roof repairs to halt the leaking and prevent any further internal damage. However the budget was not available for long term re-roofing with a lead sheet.”
Surface Protection, one of Sika Liquid Plastics Quality Assured Contractors, installed a Decothane Gamma 20 system in slate grey. “The roof works can’t be seen from ground level,” adds Martin Eyre from Surface Protection, “But the colour of Decothane mimics the look of lead so that the new roofing system remains sympathetic to the original structure.”
Decothane is a completely cold applied, liquid roof membrane that can be quickly and easily installed around even the most complex detail areas. It provides seamless waterproof protection and the system on Bramham Park is guaranteed to last for 20 years. Because the system was installed by a Quality Assured Contractor the client benefits from a single point guarantee covering materials, workmanship, and the roof susbstrate.
Additional works were also carried out to repair and replace other areas on the roof including the concrete balustrades, concrete coping, rooflights, and chimneys.
