Indications that property owners are becoming more savvy about how to get the best from energy saving improvements to their homes has been underlined by the decision of a Berkshire resident to insist on illbruck's A-Rated Installation System being used to ensure his new windows achieved their full potential once fitted.
Richard Hill, who lives in Langford bear Biggleswade, called on Bedfordshire-based Scorpio Windows to replace the existing fenestration in his 1970s house, but was concerned that completing the work with the traditional silicone bead seal around the perimeter might not match the performance potential of the new Veka PVC-U windows.
Scorpio duly installed a total of 15 frames with representatives from the manufacturer's Technical Services team on hand to offer advice on the correct use of the A-Rated system's for the first few openings.
Colin Pepper, Director for Scorpio Windows, commented "This contract included the installation of 15 number high performance A-rated Veka UPVC casement windows featuring 28 mm double glazed IG units, with Low E glass and Argon gas filling, and using warm edge spacer bars. In the case of this installation we found the illbruck products slightly more time consuming, but relatively easy to use; resulting in a very satisfactory result."
The A-Rated System comprises TP651 Trio Impregnated Tape and FM330 Pro Foam to create an effective insulated and airtight seal. The self-adhesive 35 mm wide tape was cut to length and attached to the head and sides of each frame immediately before being fitted in place. It expands to take up any irregularities around the opening while the FM330 Pro Foam is injected into the gap beneath the window sill. As well as excluding the weather and preventing heat loss, the A-Rated Installation System also helps improve the overall acoustic performance of the completed fenestration.
The customer added: "I am delighted with the look of my new windows and I have really noticed a difference in how warm the house is as well as how quiet it is".
The A-Rated Installation System has been specifically developed for the domestic window market, building on illbruck's success for commercial customers; while field trials have showed that it is actually faster than conventional approaches in most situations.
