Over 200 new affordable homes will be built in Peterborough by early 2015 as part of a £21 million investment to meet high demand for housing in the area.
A partnership between Westleigh Partnership Homes, Longhurst Group, L&H Homes and Peterborough City Council has resulted in a commitment to 207 new homes close to the city centre being built over the next 12 months.
Set to transform two former factory sites on Windsor Avenue and Midland Road, 90 new homes and an open green community space will be created on Midland Road, whilst Windsor Avenue will provide 117 family homes. A variety of property types will be available, with two bedroom apartments through to four bedroom houses being built and available on a range of rent and home ownership initiatives with L&H Homes.
Set to complete by the end of the year, Windsor Avenue will see £10 million of investment, with Westleigh and L&H Homes contributing £260,000 towards the development of open spaces and a play area. The £11 million Midland Road scheme will complete its first phase in early 2015 and it is hoped that planning permission with be granted on a further 50 homes.
Gary Turner, Head of Investment and Partnerships at Westleigh, comments, “Westleigh is responding to the growing demand for affordable homes in the city. We are very pleased that construction is now well underway to create 207 new affordable homes and those areas such as Windsor Avenue and Midland Road will be regenerated into new communities.
“Both schemes are an excellent example of our ability to put brownfield sites back to good use for the benefit of the entire community. The schemes will not only provide homes for hundreds of local people, but also a number of training and employment opportunities, providing a positive boost to the local economy.”
Nick Worboys, Assistant Director (Development) at the Longhurst Group, comments, “We have worked in partnership with Westleigh on several builds in the local area and it is great to be working with a builder who produce quality homes that meet the needs of our customers. We look forward to enabling another successful project that provides homes as well as local training and employment.”
L&H Homes, a member of the Longhurst Group of companies, is a leading provider of affordable housing with over 8000 homes for rent and sale, across the East and West Midlands and the East of England.
