Sanderson Court is
one of five village communities across the City of Birmingham that provide
independence and social opportunities for the over 60’s.
The development of
44 one, two and three-bedroom Retirement Living apartments, includes a host of
social and leisure facilities all set within the landscaped gardens of a
private, gated development.
The retirement
village, named after Sanderson Miller – the designer and architect of the
cherished local landmark, Hagley Hall - includes an on-site restaurant, guest
suite and laundry facilities, and is built on the former Hagley Middle School
site on Park Road.
The design of the
McCarthy & Stone scheme was a bold attempt to emulate the critically
acclaimed ‘Tree House' community school project in Zaltbommel, The Netherlands.
McCarthy &
Stone’s design team were impressed by the striking aesthetic achieved on the
Tree House scheme, and sought to emulate this by using a similar combination of
four different colours, installed in strips of varying height and length, to
create a superb, eye-catching façade.
The decorative
boarding solution, provided by Taylor Maxwell, offers a wood pattern design
that creates a natural and realistic visual to the project.
The board material
is organic, has a varied colour tonality and is entirely suitable for external
use.
Furthermore, the
solution is a highly durable material that requires very little maintenance and
has considerable longevity, retaining all its inherent qualities.
