Combining modern and traditional

Extending a traditional building can often incur different problems, including planning permission. At a private home in Staffordshire the homeowners were granted planning permission to extend their home creating a new two story wing to include a new kitchen, dining space and master bedroom suite.

Newcastle –under-Lyme fabricators Safety Glass Replacements won the contract to install the glazing solutions for the new extension. Choosing to install Kestrel Aluminium Systems thermally efficient products meant Safety Glass could be confident that they would be able to deliver their part of the project on time and in full.

In the prestigious modern extension the client specified the installation of energy efficient products to ensure the house remained thermally efficient as well as stylish. On the ground floor the use of the PAS 24 tested Folding Sliding Doors gave the option to open up an entire wall and bring the outside inside, whilst on the return wall a set of French doors were installed to give another point of access to the garden.

On the first floor the bedroom was designed to maximise the views to the surrounding countryside. To ensure the views were undisturbed Safety Glass Replacements suggested the use of thermal framing. Often considered a commercial product in this application the framing system allowed for large glass panes to be installed framing the views outside. To make the best use of the thermally efficient framing low u-value glass was installed to ensure energy efficiency.

Opting for the use of anthracite grey glazing products gave the extension a distinct and modern appearance.
