The AV Group has been specified again by BAM Construction, this time to provide on-site modular buildings for The University of Manchester’s £61m National Graphene Institute (NGI) which is being built off Oxford Road in Manchester.
AV Group is putting 21 units on-site and construction is due to start next week. The Open Space steel modular buildings will include the highest quality accommodation for contractors including a canteen, open plan offices, meeting rooms, disabled toilets and washroom facilities and rest areas. The installation will also feature a viewing platform to enable visitors to see the progression of the development.
When completed the five-floor, 7,600 sq m, glass-fronted NGI building on Booth Street East will include a large research lab and two cleanrooms, where experiments can be carried out without contamination.
The world-class research institute is being built to help develop the world’s thinnest and strongest material which is almost completely transparent and is an excellent conductor of electricity.
Two University of Manchester academics, Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, won the Nobel Prize for Physics for their research into graphene in 2010.
