KGM Roofing, a division of Lindum Group Limited, has commenced on-site rolling at Crossrail’s Old Oak Common depot, the future home to Bombardier's new operations hub for Crossrail.
The facility, which will feature 40,000 linear metres of roofing and cladding from CA Building Products, will house Crossrail rolling stock, as well as other, smaller ancillary buildings.
Since arriving on site, health and safety has been a priority for the development team and KGM’s work to date has already resulted in them being awarded the title of safety contractor of the month, on behalf of developer, Taylor Woodrow.
Gavin Harriman, Business Development Manager for KGM, commented: “A job like this requires a great deal of coordination and communication between all parties to ensure each of the different teams has the access they need and work can proceed safely, with minimal disruption.
“The collaborative nature of our relationship with the team at CA Building Products ensures that we have what we need when we need it. The weather conditions have been challenging but work has continued a-pace and the team has rolled 20,000 linear metres in just five days.”
The aluminium stucco River-Therm® roof is being installed in sheets of up to 100 meters in length, rolled at the eaves. The structure also incorporates a curved feature wall, a first for the team at CA Building Products, which will be clad in CA Group’s Prime Rainscreen system, further increasing aesthetic appeal.
Harriman continued: “The curved wall is an excellent example of the ability which the CA Building Products team has to innovate, in order to meet the needs of the client. When we outlined the specification, in spite of the fact that they hadn’t produced a curved wall profile before, they developed a solution and delivered a quality product.”
Martin Lowther, Operations Director – CA Building Products, added: “While we regularly curve our roof, due to the many benefits it delivers both from an aesthetic and sustainable perspective, this is the first time we have curved our wall profile. We worked closely with the KGM team to understand the client’s requirements and developed a tool specifically for the job.”
Work on this phase of the build is expected to be completed in early 2016.
The main contractor on the project is Vinci Construction, principal architects are RPS Planning & Development.
