First homes released in North West through Get Britain Building investment

The first 10 homes in the North West supported by the £570m Get Britain Building programme are now complete, marking a significant milestone for the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) plans to unlock locally-backed sites and deliver new homes in England.

The HCA provided Get Britain Building loan funding at the former Blackburn Royal Infirmary site, located to the North West of Blackburn town centre, to enable development to restart in December 2012.

The site, now named The Royals, is being delivered by developer David Wilson Homes and will build 33 new two, three and four bedroom family homes.

The HCA’s Get Britain Building funding has supported delivery of the first phase of what will ultimately be a 123 unit development.

Deborah McLaughlin, HCA Executive Director, said: “This investment has clear benefits for Blackburn and the wider community.  Not only is it good news in terms of delivery, but a benchmark of what can be achieved with our help and effective partnership working. I will now be looking for partners to push forward on their schemes to help realise the full potential of the Get Britain Building programme."

Jason Corner, Development Director, David Wilson Homes North West said: “We are incredibly proud to be a part sucha significant development for Blackburn, which is not only providing local residents with quality homes and valuable employment opportunities, but also aiding the regeneration of the wider area. It is equally exciting to see the site finally coming alive, with the first homes now completed and the first purchasers having recently moved in.”

Councillor Maureen Bateson, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “The Council and local MP Jack Straw have worked hard with its partners to help kick start this development. This will create much needed, quality homes for families in the borough and is an important development in the further regeneration of the wider Infirmary Area.”
