King’s Lynn Academy received £10.4m from the Department of Education to refurbish its two existing buildings and build a new hi-tech central hub.
The hub is ultra modern in its design and offers flexible teaching environments with a multi-functional grand hall. The classrooms can double in size by making use of the moveable walling.
The classroom walls are constructed from glass allowing light to flood in and create bright learning spaces with an open feel. The old school buildings retained their 1940s brick outer but now shine with 21st century interiors.
A total of 10,137m2 of Knauf AMF Ceiling products were installed in the three buildings to meet the different acoustic and aesthetic requirements.
Ceiling contractor, Jumbo Projects carried out the installation and Adam Yates, Commercial Director, was very complimentary about Knauf AMF Ceiling systems, having installed their products before in other school buildings and been impressed with the quality, ease of installation and price competitiveness. “We always recommend using Knauf AMF Ceilings for projects like this one. Their ceiling products are extremely easy to use and problem-free. The finished results are always impressive.”The design for the grand hall features a number of hard reflective materials, including glass and metal, which can create poor acoustics. To overcome this, Thermatex Alpha tiles were installed around the top of the hall to provide Class A sound absorption and reduce the amount of reverberation.
Fine Stratos tiles were installed, using the AMF Ventatec grid system, in all of the classrooms to help absorb sound and improve speech intelligibility. Fine Stratos is a lightly textured tile with micro perforations. This gives the tile its high sound absorption which helps control unwanted noise in the main teaching and learning areas. The tile’s clean, crisp finish complements the school’s contemporary design. The AMF Ventatec grid system is a high performance, easy to install click system available in both 24mm and 15mm widths.
The kitchen and bathroom areas required a high level of hygiene. AMF Thermaclean S is ideal for these environments because of its white vinyl foil laminated face which has a durable and washable finish and 250sqm were installed at the school.
The high technical performance and design of the Knauf AMF Ceiling products installed in the Academy have helped create a new aspirational environment where the students can thrive and succeed.
