One of Yorkshire’s largest independent curtain walling specialists, NG Developments (Normanton) Ltd, is celebrating after scooping a major new contract worth more than £600,000 to help with the redevelopment of The Moor shopping centre in Sheffield.
As part of the multi-million pound scheme, NG Developments will manufacture and install more than 1,200 sq. metres of Technal-MX toggle glazed curtain walling, holding amount of bespoke glass in place. The team will also be installing automated roof lights, which will help to illuminate the indoor market for late-night shoppers.
The Moor, one of Sheffield’s premier shopping areas, is currently undergoing significant redevelopment as part of a major investment into the city centre. NG has won the contract which will see the team creating part of a unique roof structure that has been designed to replace the existing Castle Market.
Built using timber Glulam beams, clad in copper shingles and roof glazing, this new market hall roof structure is a hugely complex undertaking, due to the varying movement that has to be accommodated under load and windy weather conditions. Work on the project is due to be completed by the end of 2013.
Adrian Lee, Commercial Director at NG commented: “We are delighted to be involved in such a huge Yorkshire project and we believe this is another major step forward for us. The Moor contract is certainly an engineering challenge due to its sophisticated structure, but we are really enjoying putting it together. Leslie Jones Architecture described its’ roof as being dramatic and prominent and I think the people of Sheffield will really like it. NG were selected because of the high standard of our previous work and our exemplary safety record, which is second to none.”
In addition to this huge contract win, the company has also strengthened its senior team by hiring a new Commercial Manager in Guy Olsen, who has built up his knowledge and expertise of the construction industry during 13 years of working within it.
Lee added: “We are thrilled Guy has joined the team as he has great knowledge and experience within our industry and his expertise will certainly be of great use to the company, hopefully for many years to come.”
Meanwhile, the company is also nearing the completion of another major project; the Bicester Town Centre Expansion development which has seen the installation of more than 3500m² of Technal MX curtain walling and Hansen Thermospan bolted glazing.
NG Developments (Normanton) Ltd is based in Normanton, Wakefield and is one of the UK's leading specialists in design, manufacturing and installation of architectural aluminium glazing systems and Rainscreen Cladding systems.
