Recticel sails into the lead for charity

Recticel Insulation has donated its high performance Eurothane GP insulation to Rudyard Sailability, an award-winning charity that provides sailing activities for people living with a disability. The donation marks a substantial step forward for the charity in its mission to create a state-of-the-art sailing facility in Staffordshire.
More than 200m2 of the rigid PIR foam board has been installed in the roof of a prestigious new boathouse, which is being built to very high specifications in order to protect the high-tech boats and equipment needed by the charity. As many of the boats are controlled by complex electronics, it is vital that they are stored in a warm and completely damp-free environment.
“Our specialised boats and equipment enable children and adults with a disability to compete on level terms – we have boats that can be sailed using sip and puff mouth controls, hands or feet, and even a single finger,” explains Dennis Priebe, Chairman of Rudyard Sailability. “Our goal is to construct a boathouse that will set a benchmark for all future Sailability groups to aspire to, and it is only through the extreme generosity of organisations such as Recticel Insulation that we will be able to achieve this.”
The £496K boathouse, which is being constructed in natural stone and slate, also incorporates an underfloor heating system, an air source heat pump and a sophisticated heat management system. To complement the heat generation equipment, the building required high standards of roof-level insulation to prevent the dry air and warmth from escaping. Ideal for use in pitched roofs, flooring and wall applications, Recticel’s Eurothane GP was perfect for this purpose.
Eurothane GP is composed from a closed cell, rigid polyisocyanurate foam core, which is faced on both sides with a multi-layer coated aluminum foil. It has an exceptionally low thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK making it ideal for applications that require very high levels of thermal insulation. What’s more, it is both CFC and HCFC free, meaning it has zero ozone layer depletion potential.
“We’re really pleased to make this donation to such a worthwhile cause,” comments Nathan Whitehall, Sales Administration Manager at Recticel. “It’s great to see our products being put to such good use and we’re confident that they will contribute to a warm and safe environment for the charity, for many years to come.”
