Foamglas Floorboard F from Pittsburgh Corning has been used to insulate the floors of the new Porsche Centre in Solihull. The cellular glass insulation was selected for its exceptional compressive strength – 1600 kPa/m2 – which makes it ideal for concrete floors.
The project will see 2500m2 of Foamglas Floorboard F installed in the 36-car sales showroom, 12-bay workshop and valet building. Scheduled to open in early 2012, the site will be one of the largest Porsche Centres in the UK.
Floorboard F is one of a range of cellular glass thermal insulation products from Pittsburgh Corning Ltd. Its construction – each block is made up of millions of hermetically sealed glass cells – means it has outstanding insulation properties and is totally impervious to any form of damp or vapour condensation. This ensures that the insulation remains effective throughout the entire life of the building.

“Its primary function is to act as insulation but with the additional advantage of there being absolutely no risk of water absorption. This means its thermal performance is going to remain constant for the lifetime of the building.”
Fully compliant with all Building Regulations, FOAMGLAS is impervious to attack by vermin, insects or birds and is totally free from HCFC, HFA and pentane. It remains totally stable dimensionally throughout the lifetime of the building, which ensures no risk of compression, deformation or sagging in the floor construction.
