NEW SPLIT ECODAN BRINGS RENEWABLE HEATING TO EVEN MORE PROPERTIES

Mitsubishi Electric has added to its range of award-winning Ecodan® air source heat pumps with the introduction of three split air-to-water systems offering capacities of 4kW, 7.5kW and 12kW.

The new outdoor units link to a dedicated internal hydrobox via refrigerant piping which allows all water piping and connections to be sited internally.

The hydrobox, the 7.5kW model and the 12kW model are all manufactured in the UK. The 12kW model can be sited up to 75 metres away from the hydrobox and the 4kW and 7.5kW models up to 40 metres.

All three models have been approved under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), which recognises consistency of manufacturing and strict compliance to agreed industry standards of quality.

“These new models expand the Ecodan range and allow us to offer even more flexibility of design and functionality, ensuring that more of the nation's buildings can benefit from low carbon heating,” explains John Kellett, Mitsubishi Electric’s Heating General Manager.

The PUHZ-SW Ecodan units use the company's advanced FTC-4 controller which delivers hybrid functionality with a gas or oil boiler and also allows up to six Ecodan units to be connected and intelligently controlled together.

This unique cascade facility will deliver up to 72kW of fully controllable heating, making it ideal for multi-use premises such as blocks of flats, for light commercial situations and brings the possibility of renewable heating to larger homes.

The multiple unit cascade feature rotates operation amongst the individual units, allowing the system to decide the operating capacity requirements based on a building’s heating load.

In the case of the hybrid option, the system calculates which technology to run at any one time with the whole system switching automatically, based on run cost or CO2 output, between the heat pump and an alternative heating source. This now provides an easy, low carbon solution for building operators who have a working oil or gas heating system yet still need to meet renewable energy targets.

Ecodan's advanced SD Card functionality also enables the operating parameters for the controller to be set before an installer visits the site to commission a system, which is particularly useful for large projects involving multiple properties.

“These new split models will enable even more building operators to see how heat pumps can deliver reliable, low carbon heating into their premises,” says Kellett.

“Add to this the ability to work alongside an existing heating system and we can now offer a simple and effective route to low carbon heating.”
